๐บ๐ธ CBDC Update
by Winston Esteves
The United States has enacted legislation that prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC) through December 31, 2030.
The measure became law after the President allowed the bill to become law without a signature by taking no action during the constitutional review period.
The law restricts the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC or a substantially similar digital currency during that period. It does not prohibit privately issued stablecoins, such as USDT and USDC, which remain subject to their own regulatory frameworks.
This legislation reflects Congress's current approach of distinguishing privately issued stablecoins from a government-issued digital dollar.
